Step 4: Choose the Right Pair
From the Wallet tab, click Exchange. Select your source token (you hold it) and the destination token you want. Exodus calculates rates automatically—review them.
Step 5: Check Slippage & Fees
Slippage tolerance is built-in. If you're swapping a large amount or low-liquidity token, click the ⚙️ icon and set higher tolerance (0.5–1%) to prevent swap errors due to price movements.
Step 6: Supply Sufficient Gas
Exodus auto-estimates gas but check it manually on advanced swaps. On Ethereum, underestimating gas may fail. Adjust upward if network is congested.
Step 7: Review & Confirm
Before finalizing, confirm every detail: amounts, token symbols (avoid impersonators), estimated fees, and rate. Then click Swap.
Step 8: Wait for Confirmation
You’ll see a progress indicator. On-chain swaps can take 1‑5 minutes; Layer‑2 swaps often confirm much faster. Don’t worry if status stays “pending” briefly.
Step 9: Verify Your New Balance
After confirmation, return to Wallet tab. You should see your destination token balance. If it’s missing, click Refresh Assets or restart Exodus.
Troubleshooting Common Swap Errors
Error: Insufficient Funds
Make sure you have enough of both source token and native chain gas. If needed, move more gas token into the wallet.
Error: Slippage Exceeded
This means price moved before swap. Increase slippage tolerance slightly (up to 1%) or try at lower traffic times.
Error: Gas Too Low / Out of Gas
Resubmit swap with increased gas fee. Multiply default by 1.2× to ensure success on busy networks.
Error: Unknown or Unsupported Token
Manually add the token’s correct contract address under Settings → Assets → Add Custom Token. Then retry swap.
Best Practices for Error-Free Swaps
- Swap smaller batches (<$1,000) to reduce slippage risk.
- Use less busy times or lower gas networks like Polygon.
- Double-check token symbols and contract addresses to avoid scams.
- Keep Exodus updated and monitor official channels for swap issues.
- Consider using hardware integration (e.g. Trezor) for added safety.
Advanced Tips
If you frequently swap complex tokens, consider using external DeFi aggregators (1inch, Paraswap) for better routing and lower slippage. Export transactions after swap via Portfolio → Export CSV for tracking.
