Why Enable Two-Factor Authentication?
Two‑Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection beyond your password, requiring a one-time code from your mobile device. It helps prevent unauthorized access even if your password is compromised.
Requirements Before You Begin
- Latest version of Exodus Wallet installed
- An authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.) on your smartphone
- Your 12‑word recovery phrase securely backed up
Step 1: Open Exodus Settings
Launch Exodus and click the menu icon (☰) in the top-right corner, then select Settings → Security.
Step 2: Locate Two‑Factor Authentication
Scroll to the 2FA section and click Enable 2FA.
Step 3: Scan or Manually Enter QR Code
A QR code and manual key will appear. Open your authenticator app, scan the code, or paste the key manually.
Step 4: Verify the Code
Enter the 6‑digit code generated by your authenticator and click Verify. If correct, 2FA is activated.
Step 5: Backup Emergency Codes
Exodus provides backup codes. **Save these in a secure location**—they’ll help you regain access if you lose your authenticator device.
Step 6: Test 2FA on Login
Log out and log back in. After entering your password, you’ll be prompted for the 2FA code. Verify it works.
Troubleshooting & Best Practices
Time Sync Issues
If codes don’t work, ensure your phone’s time is correctly set (enable “Automatic date & time”).
Lost Authenticator Device
Use one of the backup codes to login, then disable 2FA and set it up again on a new device.
Authenticator App Recommendations
Use reliable apps like Authy or Google Authenticator. Authy supports multi-device sync and backup.
Disabling Two‑Factor Authentication
To disable, go to Settings → Security → 2FA, click Disable, and confirm with a backup code.
Security Tips
- Never share your backup codes or QR key.
- Store backup codes offline (paper, hardware safe).
- Use biometric or PIN login in addition to 2FA.
- Regularly update Exodus to benefit from security improvements.
